Sun Valley Baptist Church

Pastor Michael Moffitt was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was attending college ,and playing football when He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour at the age of twenty.

Pastor Moffitt was a professional tradesman when God called him to preach, at the age of twenty two.

For the next several years Michael served in his church as a preacher, teacher, youth pastor, and children's worker.

He married his wife Katy in September of 1998, and they have three beautiful children.

Accepting the call to full-time Christian service, he moved his family to Indiana to attend Bible College.  Michael graduated in 2007.

Following God's Calling Pastor Moffitt, and his family moved to Anthem, Arizona and started the Sun Valley Baptist Church in October of 2007.

God has miraculously provided for the establishment of the first Baptist Church in the North Valley of Phoenix (Anthem).

“My family and I are very thankful that the Lord called us here to Phoenix, and for all of the wonderful people that we get to serve the Lord together with here at Sun Valley.  Our prayer is that we continue serving the KING here together until He comes!  We are very excited for what the Lord has in store for the future of Sun Valley!"

Our Story

We Believe

WE BELIEVE THE BIBLE is the Word of God.  We believe in one God, who is eternal, self-existent, infinite, and immutable. We believe He has one nature, one essence, and one substance, yet manifests Himself to man in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; I Timothy 1:17; James 1:17; I John 4:4).

WE BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST is the Son of God, that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross and shed His blood as payment for our sins, and then rose from the dead three days later. We believe that the only way a person may go to Heaven when he dies is to place his faith in the payment that Jesus Christ provided with His shed blood on the cross (John 14:6).   Sun Valley Baptist Church is an Independent Baptist church. Once a person is saved by putting his faith in Jesus, he is commanded to be baptized by immersion to show to others what took place at Salvation; we do this in obedience, not to save us, but to show that we have been saved. (Acts 2:41, Acts 8:35-39)  We believe in participating in the Lord's Supper on a regular basis to remember the payment Jesus made for us, and to express our love to Him for that payment. The Lord's Supper is not received to take us to Heaven, but in remembrance of what Jesus Christ did for us and to thank Him for His sacrifice.  (I Corinthians 11:24-26)

WE BELIEVE THAT THE BIBLE is what it claims to be: The Word of God.  We believe that the King James Bible is the preserved copy of the Word of God in the English Language. (Psalm 12:6-7, Proverbs 30:5-6).  We take instruction from the Bible literally; we do not believe that it is an allegory or a fable. We take instruction from the Bible in all areas of faith and practice, and we go to it for the answers to life’s questions.  The Bible is our road map for life.  (Psalm 12:6-7)

WE BELIEVE THAT THE FAMILY unit should be strong and healthy. The first institution God made on earth was the family; therefore, we strive to bring glory to Jesus Christ by strengthening families.  Programs in the church are geared to help build strong families. Sun Valley Baptist Church provides fellowship, friendship, and support, through our services and activities. We strive to be protective of our children. Background checks of everyone working in Sun Valley Baptist Church’s children’s ministries are required.  (Ephesians 5)

WE BELIEVE THAT THE LOCAL NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH should be the moral conscience of a community.  Sun Valley Baptist Church is an Independent Baptist Church with Jesus Christ as the head of the church.  The Local New Testament Church is the institution through which Christ commanded us to reach the world with the Gospel.  Since God also created civil governments, we work hard to cooperate with and work together with our elected officials and civil servants.  (Ephesians 5; Matthew 16:18)

WE BELIEVE THAT THE ONLY REQUIREMENTS for church membership are salvation and baptism by immersion. People who are saved and baptized at Sun Valley Baptist Church are voted in as members unless they request not to be. A person may join from another Baptist church by transfer. Persons wishing to join from another church must give testimony of their salvation and their immersed baptism, and thereby join by Christian experience.  (Acts 2)

WE BELIEVE THAT IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY as outlined in the Bible to spread the Gospel to our area, nation, and world. Mark 16:15, "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Matthew 28:19-20, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

WE BELIEVE THAT CHRISTIANS should talk, behave, live, and dress like a citizen of Heaven. The basis for these standards is found in the Bible. We make no apology for our conservative beliefs in many areas including music, social issues, dress, and behavior.  (I Peter 2:9)

WE BELIEVE A CHURCH should not be filled with spectators but participants. We believe a church should be described as a spiritual hospital where people come for spiritual healing & growth, not a spiritual museum where the relics of religion are displayed. We have a first-class way of doing things. We are careful stewards of God's money. We give an accurate accounting once a month of the church budget.  We strive to be honest and respectable.  (I Timothy 3)

WE BELIEVE GOD'S business is the greatest business in the world.  (Luke 2:49)

This doctrinal statement does not exhaust the extent of our faith at Sun Valley Baptist Church.
The Bible itself is the sole and final source of all that we believe.
